How is the kid doing?

Thanks (in advance) for coming to the open house on Monday, September 13. We meet this teacher and have fun talking kids and class.

The first semester project will be announced soon.

All progress can be verified by a computer printout. Every two or three weeks, students recieve a computer printout from this science class. It shows progress in labs, homework, participation, quizzes, and tests. Students usually communicate their success to their parents with these reports. If a parent is not seeing these, something is wrong. Ask the kid to bring home their latest computer printout the next day. If it is not brought home, call the guidance counselor, they will contact the teacher and get you a progress report. Mid semester progress reports are sent home with the students every semester. Are you seeing these? Report cards at the end of every marking period?

All assignments are posted here on the agenda page(s). Check these pages and ask your kid. Any homework tonite? You will know the answer. Textbook should be at home. It is not to be in school. It is used for homework. Work is checked in class.

Please reward achievement. A little something special is most appropriate for any student with a 90+ average.

Address any low grade problem with the kid directly. Low participation grades indicate behavior performance problems in the classroom. Call the guidance counselor and make an appointment to meet with the teacher. Counsel the kid to correct what you discover in the meeting. Low test/quiz/homework/project grades can indicate poor study/work habits at home. To improve these grades, all homework should be supervised by an adult.

Speed reading is highly recommended by the teacher. Comprehension improves markedly. The original Evelyn Wood finger/speed method book costs about $5 at Barnes and Noble.
